The Parris Island Marine Corps Jazz Combo, which performs regularly across the US and recently was one of the headliners at the Savannah Jazz Festival, will visit East Brunswick on Wednesday, Oct. 28 for a free concert as part of Daniel Pearl World Music Days. The concert will be hosted by Temple B’nai Shalom, 15 Fern Road in East Brunswick, beginning at 7:30.

“It is an honor for us to welcome the Parris Island Marine Corps Jazz Combo to East Brunswick for a Daniel Pearl World Music Days concert,” said Andy Boyarsky, chair of the Daniel Pearl Education Center. “We have been trying for several years now to attract, for this free community concert, an act with the stature of the Marine Corps Jazz Combo. This will be a memorable performance, no doubt, for the community and another way to honor our Armed Forces. We expect that local VFW chapters and others will be part of this special evening.”

The Parris Island Marine Corps Jazz Combo performs a wide variety of jazz charts at receptions, military ceremonies, and schools throughout the country. Expect to hear great music from all eras of recorded jazz, including favorites from Miles Davis and John Coltrane, as well as original compositions and contemporary jazz.

Daniel Pearl World Music Days was created in response to the 2002 kidnapping and murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl at the hands of extremists in Karachi, Pakistan. Pearl was a talented musician who joined musical groups in every community in which he lived, leaving behind a long trail of musician-friends spanning the entire globe. Commemorating his October 10th birthday, World Music Days uses the universal language of music to encourage fellowship across cultures and build a platform of “harmony for humanity.”

The appearance by Marine Corps Jazz Combo marks the 11th free concert hosted by the DPEC.

“There are few jazz bands in the country that can match the skill of the Parris Island Marine Corps Jazz Combo,” said Yvonne Amalina DeCarolis, a DPEC committee member and the organizer of this year’s concert. “Everyone is in for a real treat.”
